How would our lives be lived if we could go anywhere we wanted, whenever we wanted, and in no time at all? Standing in Miami one second, and in Tokyo the next would be natural.

To get to Japan by boat takes weeks. By plane--sixteen grueling hours--with a painful price tag to match. But I’m not talking about those old ways of transportation; I’m speaking of the new and improved.

We’re talking about an instantaneous movement from point A. to point B. anywhere on the globe! In terms of traveling: missed flights, delays, planning, sweat, headaches, anxiety, time consumption, and high costs would all become remnants of the past.

Imagine every mall, restaurant and office having a teleportation unit. This would certainly put a new spin on “going out to lunch”. During your precious lunch hour you might be in the mood for delicious shezuan, sushi, or  kimchi perhaps? Forget about the restaurant down the street! You contemplate teleporting to Chengdu, Tokyo, or Seoul! The unit instantaneously transfers you to your restaurant of choice half way around the world! Getting back to work in time is now even easier than it was when you walked across the street--even being 3,000 miles away!

Maybe during that hour break you really aren’t hungry at all. So instead, you go to the teleportation unit in your office, pick your coordinates and are instantaneously sent to a secluded beach on the island of Maui. Maybe all you needed was some relaxing introspection in the cool tropical breeze accompanied by the sound of gentle ocean waves lapping against the sand. The lunch break from work would never again be the same with such a marvelous invention at our disposal. But it doesn’t stop there…

How about after work, or on the weekend? How then can you fully utilize such a device? I have a sneaking suspicion that with such a device the television and movie industry would lose a great deal of their market share. Everyone would save every last dime to travel and then travel some more! Let’s say each one way ticket costs seven dollars and seventy seven scents. Why, I know I’d rather spend my money on exploring the world  than a movie any day of the week! Wouldn‘t you?

Hotels are expensive, aren’t they? Crazy enough, who needs a hotel when you can  teleport home for the night. Upon awakening you can teleport back to wherever you were visiting. Now, I’d say, this is rather snaazy!

How about the social implications of having such a device available? What if one ordinary day I’m online in a chat room and meet a lovely girl named Yuki? Only thing is--I want to meet her for dinner! Well, she happens to live in Japan and here I am stuck in a far away land >.<  What am I to do? Get my undies in a bunch? No, no!! There is indeed a better way. Instead, I cordially invite her to meet me for dinner at “Shimogamo Fukusuke” in Kyoto. We agree on a date and time, and I simply step onto the teleportation unit being instantly whisked away to the establishment with her awaiting on the other end to greet me ^____^
